Summary of the Job: The Machinist I is a key member of the production team responsible for creating precision samples for both internal testing laboratories and external clients. Working under the supervision of an experienced lead machinist and supervisor, the Technician will be trained in the fundamentals of operating various saws, grinding tools, and waterjet. The Technician will also be expected to follow work orders, maintain quality control, and contribute to maintaining a safe and organized work environment. This position is for 2nd Shift. The work hours are Monday - Thursday, 1pm - 11pm.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate
  • 0-1 years’ experience in a machine shop environment
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational skills
  • Working knowledge with hand tools
  • Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), maintain Lab ISO and process Safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Machine Setup and Operation including various saws, water jet and machining tools such as grinders and drills to generate samples and modify fixtures.
  • Develop the ability to read and interpret specifications, drawings, and work orders to understand specific tolerance.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on machine equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety with direction.
  • Inspect samples and fixtures after machining to ensure they meet quality needs with the supervision of leadership.
  • Report any issues to the supervisor for timely repairs.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot issues and make necessary adjustments to machining processes.
  • Participate in safety training programs and adhere to all safety protocols and procedures in the test lab.
  • Seek guidance and actively participate in training opportunities to develop machining skills.
  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and compliant with laboratory safety standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
