Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history. Northrop Grumman is in need of a Machinist Level 3 to work at its Elkton, Maryland facility. Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Elkton, Maryland is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup; uses a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments; makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds; measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining; fits and assembles precision parts into mechanical equipment and determines material, parts, and equipment required. Some machines may be numerically controlled. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Typically requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience. This position will have a schedule of 5:00 pm to 5:00 am Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. You will be paid 40 hours for the 36 hours worked.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent education
Minimum 4 years of experience working in a machine shop
Must have the ability to interpret blueprints, sketches, GD & T, and other engineering specifications
Must have working knowledge of shop floor mathematics and measuring tools/equipment
Ability to set-up and operate a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders
Must be able to use basic hand tool and precision measuring instruments
Ability to lift up to 50lbs
Candidate must have a willingness to learn and possess a positive team working attitude
Excellent communication, problem solving and troubleshooting skills
Candidate must demonstrate the ability to work safely and concern for the safety of others
Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite

Nice To Haves

Associates Degree
Ability to program and set-up Mazak lathes, mills, and integrex machines
Experience with Proto-Trak lathes and mills
Experience with EDM equipment both wire and sinker
Proficient in the use of hand measuring tools
Proficient with hand grinders (grinding and polishing - surface prep)
Assembly work
Explosive training
