About The Position

Develop part programs to control machining or processing of metal by CNC machine tools, equipment, or systems. Serve as the expert setup, troubleshooting and training liaison for Machine Shop operators on all machines in the department.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Must be able to show a basic understanding of computer operations.
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug & background screening
  • Lift, push & pull 10 to 50 lbs.
  • Wear department required, employer provided, personal protection equipment (PPE)
  • Be able to regularly stand and move throughout the department and shift
  • Completion of the Machinist Apprenticeship Program or equivalent years of Machinist experience.
  • Competent with CAD and CAM Software.
  • Experience with common shop practices, work order systems, and other machine shop operations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ESPRIT preferred.
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in Mori Seiki and Fanuc controllers preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to safety, ergonomics and environmental requirements defined by Amsted Rail; outlined by the Amsted Rail Health & Safety program.
  • Read blueprints, sketches, drawings, computer-aided design (CAD) files, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) files, and G- and M-code.
  • Display a working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Set up, operate, monitor, and disassemble manual machines.
  • Set up, program, operate, monitor, and disassemble computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines.
  • Write part programs for CNC machines, prove out and store programs on machine controllers and work order system.
  • Adjust machine setup, tools, coordinates, and/or program to make a quality part.
  • Align, secure, and adjust cutting tools and workpieces.
  • Build fixtures for machining parts.
  • Set and monitor the feed and speed of machines.
  • Turn, mill, drill, shape, and grind machine parts to specifications and maintain tolerances.
  • Use gauges and measuring instruments to ensure parts meet tolerance requirements.
  • Measure and examine completed parts for defects.
  • Smooth the surfaces of parts or products to specifications.
  • Present finished workpieces to customers and make modifications, if needed.
  • Write work instructions and process documentation for machining operations.
  • Conduct Machinist training and evaluation using best practices for developing others.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
