Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. This role involves demonstrating knowledge of nursing principles, competency in nursing expertise, and the ability to perform testing and respond to emergent situations. The LPN ensures the health, comfort, and safety of residents, contributes to assessments, administers medications and treatments, and provides technical support to other healthcare professionals. Documentation of resident interactions and outcomes is also a key part of the role. The LPN is expected to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents, healthcare providers, and the public, and to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary care team. Communication and confidentiality are crucial. The LPN also counsels residents, family members, and advocates on prevention and treatment plans under supervision, and applies resident education principles to develop self-care programs.
