This position is responsible for supporting the Risk Management and Insurance function by managing, collecting, and evaluating data needed for this department and particularly focused on nuclear loss control and insurance programs. This position will report to the Manager, Risk Management and will support the Manager, the Director of Risk Management, and other Risk Management colleagues as needed. The role is an engineering position responsible for coordinating insurance company loss control and inspection services for the nuclear plant facilities as well as handling the day-to-day activities of the nuclear insurance program. A key component of this role will be coordinating and facilitating activities and communications between insurance companies and nuclear plant personnel. The engineer will be knowledgeable in fire alarm/suppression and boiler and machinery systems, with an emphasis on hazard systems typically found in energy facilities with a particular focus on nuclear facilities. As part of this role, the engineer will lead the external risk engineering inspections and surveys (both property and boiler and machinery). The engineer will facilitate between the site and various stakeholders the risk improvement projects that satisfy the recommendations from those surveys. The engineer will be embedded as a critical member of various project teams as the risk management lead for various projects, such as new generation. They will be expected to provide subject matter expertise that is critical for the execution of the project, and that may have significant impacts to the viability or constructability of the asset. This role should be willing to become a subject matter expert on our nuclear insurance programs including coverage language as it will be the day-to-day analyst on the programs. This job will be located in Birmingham, AL and has potential to be both in person and remote (hybrid). Some travel, particularly to operating company locations (up to 25-30%) is required.
