About The Position

EXL Risk Control is seeking an Independent Contractor Loss Control Consultant to provide risk assessments and loss control surveys for commercial lines insurance carriers. The consultant will be responsible for scheduling and conducting on-site surveys, then generating risk evaluation and risk improvement reports for clients. These reports are crucial for underwriting commercial insurance policies and may include recommendations to mitigate potential loss-producing conditions. The role requires managing accepted assignments, securing customer appointments within a local territory, and completing work assignments on time. Consultants may also engage in special projects or more complex risk evaluation surveys, leveraging their education, certifications, and risk control expertise. The scope of work involves assessing risks for various commercial insurance lines, including Property, General Liability, Workers Compensation, Auto/Fleet, Products Liability, Inland Marine, and Builders Risk, across a diverse range of businesses from retail and restaurants to manufacturing and construction sites. Consultants will operate from their home or office and travel to local commercial business operations.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience with a major insurance carrier and/or national broker in commercial Property & Casualty Risk Control
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Computer proficiency
  • Commitment to meeting client quality and timeliness standards
  • Knowledge or experience in commercial insurance, inspections, or fire and safety assessments
  • Computer with an image/document scanner
  • Digital camera or tablet
  • High speed internet access
  • Measuring device such as a laser, 100 ft. tape, or measuring wheel
  • Reliable vehicle
  • Auto and General Liability Insurance
  • EIN (Employer Identification Number)
  • No Licensed Insurance Agents/Producers

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of Risk Control Consulting Experience working with major carrier or national brokerage preferred
  • BS Degree in Engineering, Safety and/or the physical sciences is preferred
  • CSP or ARM designations preferred but not required
  • Commercial Lines Property/Casualty Loss Control
  • Commercial Lines Property/Casualty Underwriting
  • Commercial Lines Property/Casualty Claims Adjuster
  • Commercial insurance inspections
  • Fire and Life Safety investigations/inspections
