Logistics Specialist
About The Position
A transportation and logistics organization is seeking a Logistics Specialist to support operations within its Fresh Produce Division. This role focuses on coordinating time-sensitive refrigerated freight, managing carrier execution, and ensuring reliable delivery for perishable commodities. The position begins with a strong operational focus and is designed as a development path toward a customer-facing account management role. The right candidate will gain deep exposure to temperature-controlled logistics, produce transportation patterns, and shipper relationship management.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in produce brokerage, refrigerated freight, or logistics operations preferred
- Experience working with fresh produce, vegetables, or other perishable commodities strongly preferred
- Understanding of refrigerated transportation and temperature-controlled supply chains
- Ability to manage time-sensitive freight and resolve operational issues quickly
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Experience coordinating with carriers, dispatchers, and logistics platforms
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced logistics environment
Nice To Haves
- Produce brokerage or produce logistics experience
- Experience coordinating reefer freight
- Exposure to grower, distributor, or grocery supply chains
- Background in freight brokerage, logistics operations, or produce distribution
Responsibilities
- Coordinate refrigerated produce shipments from pickup through final delivery
- Source and manage qualified carriers for temperature-controlled freight
- Monitor shipments in transit and proactively resolve delays or service issues
- Ensure proper temperature requirements and transit conditions are maintained
- Provide shipment updates to internal teams and customers
- Work closely with growers, distributors, and receivers to ensure delivery accuracy
- Track shipment documentation including bills of lading, rate confirmations, and delivery receipts
- Assist with carrier negotiations, load coverage, and pricing coordination
- Support customer accounts with scheduling, tracking, and service management
- Develop working knowledge of produce logistics and seasonal shipping patterns
