About The Position

A Locomotive Mechanic’s responsibilities include general mechanical duties including, but not limited to inspecting, servicing, repairing and maintaining diesel locomotives. Must have a working knowledge of hand tools and be able to work in adverse seasonal conditions.

Requirements

18 years of age or older
High School Diploma or GED
Ability to work from written and verbal instructions
Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, adhere to work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules
Valid driver’s license
Must be able to work varying shifts, including weekends and overtime as required
Must be able to occasionally work in varying weather conditions
Must be able to submit to and be able to pass a drug screen
Maintain a good attendance record
Must be able to pass a background check
Must be willing to wear required personal protective equipment

Responsibilities

Operate general hand tools
Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, air brakes, running gear and other locomotive components
Inspect, repair, and install electrical components
Fabricate, cut, shape, and perform finish operations using various types of materials
Perform periodic service on locomotives
Comply with railroad safety and operating rules
