As an NBCUniversal Academic Year intern, you will engage in real projects, contribute to a collaborative culture, and receive support for growth over two full semesters. NBCUniversal Local is the company's local media division, serving English and Spanish-speaking and bilingual audiences in 31 U.S. markets and Puerto Rico. It delivers local sports, news, weather, consumer and investigative reporting, and lifestyle entertainment across various platforms. This division comprises the NBC Owned Television Stations, the NBC Sports Regional Networks, and the Telemundo Station Group, working together to keep local audiences informed.

Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2026 through April 2027).
  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
  • Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week from September 21, 2026 – April 23, 2027.
  • Must be willing to work in Universal City, CA.
  • Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Academic background in Broadcast Journalism, Journalism, English, Communications, Media Studies, Political Science, or other related fields.
  • Experience working with a campus TV station, newspaper, or website.
  • Comfortable with shooting and editing on cellphone as well as desktop editing.
  • For Newsroom: Bilingual in Spanish and English (written/spoken).
  • For Newsroom: Fluent in the news of the day and the Los Angeles news market (i.e., local politics, sports, culture, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Assist assignment editors, show producers, package producers, writers, editors, and reporters in the KNBC/KVEA Newsroom.
  • Work under deadline and across platforms while helping with a full range of news gathering activities.
  • Identify and pitch compelling stories.
  • Follow up on story leads.
  • Support fact-checking and story development.
  • Find visual news elements and get clearances.
  • Identify story sources and experts.
  • Pre-interview subjects.
  • Log breaking news events.
  • Assist in all manner of news gathering.
  • Cultivate news writing skills and sharpen reporting skills in a fast-paced environment for KNBC/KVEA Local Integrated Media.
  • Learn to work in a multitude of programs toward breaking accurate news online fast.
  • Make calls and interview sources.
  • Write stories and publish in a CMS (content management system).
  • Clip reporter videos for the website with SEO-friendly and attention-grabbing headlines and descriptions.
  • Craft social posts for the stations’ branded accounts and/or gather UGC (user generated content) from social media for use on the website, on-air broadcast, or social accounts.
  • Assist the Sales Marketing team with creating PowerPoint presentations for use by Account Executives for KNBC/KVEA Sales Marketing Research.
  • Write scripts for sales segments.
  • Perform air-checks for on-air clients.
  • Perform research on potential ad sales clients.
  • Provide support with sweepstakes execution.
  • Support the Sales Marketing team on ad hoc projects.
  • Learn about community outreach, nonprofit partnerships, digital content updates, and station-led initiatives for KNBC/KVEA Community Relations.
  • Complete projects related to planning, execution, and documentation of community initiatives, campaigns, and special station events.
  • Assist the California Live team with supporting the end-to-end production process of live lifestyle segments for KNBC Lifestyle.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of content strategies across various social media platforms.
  • Perform copy editing tasks for scripts, social media posts, and promotional materials.
  • Coordinate the booking and scheduling of guests for live segments.
  • Participate in live shoots and provide on-site support to ensure the smooth execution of outdoor segments.
  • Engage with the program's audience through social media and other digital platforms.
  • Conduct research on potential topics, trends, and guests.
  • Support the marketing and promotions team in creating compelling promotional materials to boost viewership and audience engagement for both live and recorded segments.
  • Assist with the logistics of ACCESO Total show for KVEA Marketing.
  • Coordinate and book guests for the show.
  • Go on location to record segments and conduct interviews.
  • Assist photographers with productions needs at local events.
  • Assist with writing scripts for segments.
  • Create social media content for ACCESO Total show.
  • Cover junkets and red carpets to produce VO’s and SOTs for ACCESO Total.
  • Represent ACCESO Total in local events.
  • Scout locations for different segments.
