The Credit Risk Review Analyst / Associate is a key individual contributor within the independent Credit Risk Review function and plays a critical role in assessing the quality of the institution’s loan portfolio across multiple lending products. This role is responsible for performing independent, risk-based credit reviews to evaluate underwriting quality, credit administration, risk rating accuracy, policy compliance, and portfolio risk trends. Consistent with the Interagency Guidance on Credit Risk Review Systems, this position operates independently from loan production and underwriting and provides objective, credible challenge and risk insight to management. The role is intentionally structured to accommodate a wide range of experience levels, from developing reviewers building technical expertise to highly experienced individual contributors serving as subject matter experts on complex and higher-risk credits. Loan Review Analyst may vary between level II, III, or Sr. – this position may be filled at a different level depending on the candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in credit risk review, credit analysis, commercial lending, underwriting, or credit risk management.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to evaluate borrower performance and repayment capacity.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) to ten-plus (10+) years of progressive experience in credit risk review, loan review, or commercial credit.
  • Experience reviewing complex, specialized, or higher-risk credit portfolios.
  • Familiarity with Interagency Guidance on Credit Risk Review Systems and related regulatory expectations.
  • Professional certifications such as CRC, CFA, CPA, or similar credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Perform independent credit risk reviews across commercial, CRE, consumer, and specialized lending portfolios.
  • Evaluate underwriting quality, borrower financial condition, collateral adequacy, credit structure, and credit administration practices.
  • Validate assigned risk ratings and identify actual or potential credit weaknesses in accordance with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Participate in risk-based scoping and sample selection informed by portfolio risk characteristics.
  • Perform detailed financial analysis including cash flow, leverage, liquidity, repayment capacity, and sensitivity considerations.
  • Assess adherence to internal credit policies, underwriting standards, and regulatory expectations.
  • Prepare clear, organized, and well-supported workpapers and written review narratives.
  • Clearly articulate findings, conclusions, risk rating challenges, and emerging risks.
  • Contribute to portfolio-level themes, trends, and management reporting.
  • Appropriately escalate material credit issues and emerging risks.
  • Engage constructively with first-line credit partners while maintaining independence and objectivity.
  • Support tracking and validation of corrective actions and issue remediation, as assigned.
  • Develop understanding of portfolio trends, concentrations, and emerging credit risks.
  • Contribute ideas to enhance review methodology, efficiency, consistency, and use of data.
  • Support special projects, targeted reviews, or horizontal assessments based on department needs.
