About The Position

The Literacy Coach will support the implementation of Ohio’s Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant. The coach will guide educators in applying evidence-based literacy strategies aligned with Ohio’s Plan to Raise Literacy Achievement and the science of reading, with a focus on improving literacy outcomes for all students.

Requirements

  • Valid Ohio teaching license (K–12, Reading Endorsement preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience in reading/language arts
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction and the science of reading
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including students from low-income backgrounds
  • Interpret policies, procedures, and regulations; follow instructions; communicate effectively; maintain files and records; collect data; prepare required reports; accept and request assistance when situations warrant; work effectively with staff in prioritizing work; lift/move eighty (80) pounds.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and culturally responsive practices

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in instructional coaching or professional development
  • Master’s degree in Education, Literacy, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field
  • Familiarity with Ohio’s Plan to Raise Literacy Achievement and current state literacy initiatives.
  • Familiar with Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) curriculum and implementation strategies
  • Proficient in administering and interpreting DIBELS assessments
  • Completed Orton-Gillingham training with a focus on structured literacy instruction

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with school teams to implement evidence-based literacy practices aligned with the science of reading.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Local Literacy Plan based on a comprehensive needs assessment.
  • Support the integration of high-impact instructional strategies and interventions with moderate or strong levels of evidence.
  • Provide multi-level support through instructional coaching with an emphasis on disciplinary literacy.
  • Provide job-embedded coaching and professional development to teachers, intervention specialists, and instructional staff.
  • Experienced in designing and modeling differentiated literacy instruction to meet diverse learner needs, including supporting teachers in implementing data-driven strategies across tiers of instruction through coaching and professional development.
  • Lead professional learning communities (PLCs) focused on literacy instruction and student outcomes.
  • Facilitate workshops, modeling, co-teaching, and reflective coaching conversations grounded in current literacy research.
  • Support educators in using formative and summative assessment data to inform instruction.
  • Help track children’s literacy outcomes in accordance with all applicable privacy laws and grant requirements.
  • Collaborate with leadership to monitor implementation fidelity and student progress over time.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school, district leadership, families, and the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.
  • Promote family and community engagement to support literacy development.
  • Assist in documenting and sharing best practices, successes, and lessons learned.
