The Department of Teaching and Leadership in the College of Education at Pittsburg State University is accepting applications for three literacy coaches. The major role of the school literacy coach is to implement and coordinate structured literacy improvement at the school level. Duties & Responsibilities Modeling literacy practices. Conducting coaching cycles. Developing model classrooms. Coaching teachers to become mentors for other teachers. This includes: Understanding the vision, mission, and goals of the school’s structured literacy program or model and demonstrating commitment to implementing the model with depth and fidelity. Participating in all sessions of literacy coach training and meeting all requirements to ensure the successful implementation of the coaching model in Year 1. Providing demonstrations of structured literacy framework at each grade level. Using coaching cycles across the grades for increasing teachers’ knowledge for instructing struggling readers and writers. Implementing model classrooms at each grade level and move toward developing a model school as soon as possible. Coaching model classroom teachers as mentors for grade level peers. Teaching struggling readers. Meeting routinely with building administrator(s) to organize, analyze, reflect, plan, and problem solving around implementation issues as well as school initiatives. Developing and maintaining a seamless comprehensive assessment system for monitoring the progress of students and ensuring that any student who falls below the proficiency level receives appropriate and timely literacy intervention and support. Making curricular recommendations for appropriate reading and writing materials across the school. Using technology for live observations coaching conferences, and peer collaboration. Submitting an annual report to the district or university coach. Attending all required professional development by the district coach or university coach trainer Coordinating school’s literacy program. Providing professional development. Managing school-wide assessments. Teaching struggling readers.
