About The Position

The Linux Cloud Engineer is responsible for the implementation, maintenance, and daily operations of the CAILIE's technical infrastructure. This role focuses on ensuring that all AI systems and services are functioning optimally and securely, supporting both research and educational activities within the lab. This is a full-time on-campus position on our beautiful 52-acre campus in Laurel, MD, on the Baltimore Washington parkway.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in IT administration, with a focus on managing advanced computing environments.
  • Strong proficiency in Linux/Unix systems, networking, and containerized environments (docker/podman and Kubernetes).
  • Experience with enterprise networking switches (Mellanox/Nvidia or Cisco preferred)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical users.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AI/ML frameworks and GPU-based computing is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and manage CAILIE systems, including hardware setup, software installation, and network configuration.
  • Provide technical support to faculty, students, and staff, troubleshooting issues and ensuring smooth operation of the lab's resources.
  • Maintain and monitor the lab's infrastructure, including servers, storage systems, and networking equipment, to ensure high availability and performance.
  • Assist in managing remote access for students and faculty, ensuring secure and efficient use of CAILIE resources.
  • Automate routine tasks and processes within the lab to enhance efficiency and reduce manual workload.
  • Collaborate with the Artificial Intelligence Engineer to plan and execute upgrades, expansions, and other infrastructure projects.
  • Document all technical procedures, configurations, and system changes for future reference and compliance.
  • Perform other duties as required.
