About The Position

Under the direction of Distribution System Supervisor (DSS) assist and learn to perform work involved with the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal, and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities. All job duties apply to overhead and underground equipment and facilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GE D .
  • Cur r ently en r o l led in a post secondary 2 - y ear Lineman P r og r am with a T echnical School/Co l lege and f ulfi l led a l l school r equi r ements and is eligible f or internshi p .
  • Maintain passing g r ades and a 3.0 G P A with the T echnical School/Co l lege.
  • No experience r equi r ed
  • Must possess and maintain a v alid state dri v er's license.
  • Must be eligible to acqui r e CDL.
  • This job requires "recommended" test results from HireVue Line Worker Virtual Job Tryout.
  • Physical Demand level is Heavy.
  • Intern must live within a 30 minute distance under normal driving conditions to the applicable Operation Center.
  • Must have the ability and desire to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties and/or responsibilities of the key job (Lineman A) in this family and be qualified through demonstration, examination, and/or performance appraisal as determined by the Company.
  • Must be able to learn and comply with the rules, safety practices and procedures applicable to the work environment and report unsafe conditions and practices.
  • Must learn and have a working knowledge of Safety and Environmental guidelines.
  • Must effectively communicate with co-workers, supervision, internal, and external customers.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct and effective interactions with employees, contractors and others.
  • Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, nights, and holidays and respond to callouts in both outage and non- outage work to maintain and support business operational needs and schedules.
  • Must be able to read, interpret and work from simple prints and specifications.
  • Must be willing and able to elevated areas and in hot and cold temperatures.
  • This role requires regular overtime and on-call response.
  • Travel, including out of town travel, may also be required.

Responsibilities

  • Obser v e and learn the assembl y , insta l lation, maintenance, r em o v al and competently inspect unde r g r ound f acilities, conductors, fixtu r es, structu r es and other associated equipment on de-ene r gi z ed and g r ounded o v erhead and unde r g r ound f acilities under di r ect or immediate supervision.
  • Climb poles, towers and ladders and demonst r ate evidence of being at ease ab o v e g r ound le v el during the per f ormance of work tasks under immediate or di r ect supervision.
  • Demonst r ate the abili t y to competently per f orm g r ound person duties under immediate or di r ect supervision.
  • Learn and assist with loading, unloading, handling, maintaining, insta l ling and r em o ving poles, towers and structu r es.
  • Assemble and insta l l line material and ha r d w a r e under di r ect or immediate supervision.
  • Use and sto r e hand lines, tie knots and demonst r ate a basic working knowledge with r opes and rigging equipment inspection and use.
  • Splice primary and secondary o v erhead wi r es using the p r oper tools, ha r d w a r e and equipment (including crimping and comp r ession tools).
  • Learn to use, inspect and maintain tools and equipment applicable to work duties.
  • I denti f y , inspect, use and maintain a l l classes of rubber gl o v es and slee v es(PIPE), and insulating blan k ets, hoses and c o v ers(IPE).
  • I nspect, maintain, o r gani z e, ope r ate and stock compa n y v ehicles, equipment and tools.
  • P er f orm house k eeping duties as assigned.
  • R eport ir r egularities and abnormal conditions.
  • P r otect or cont r ol work a r ea.
  • Set and r em o v e barricades, flags, signs, cones and associated equipment.
  • Cor r ectly r ead and r eco r d in f ormation and r egiste r ed r eadings on analog or digital Kilo w a t t -hour meters.
  • P er f orm similar or less ski l led work as assigned.
