About The Position

Block Institute is seeking a responsible and dedicated Lifeguard or Pool Assistant to join our Aquatics team. As a Lifeguard or Pool Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of children, adults, and staff who use our pool facilities. This position involves maintaining a safe aquatic environment, providing assistance to swimmers, and ensuring the cleanliness and proper functioning of the pool area.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Lifeguard Certification.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce all safety and health rules to maintain a safe and comfortable aquatic environment.
  • Provide emergency care in the event of incidents within the pool or locker room areas.
  • Maintain a constant presence on the pool deck during any activity.
  • Assist children with swim techniques from inside the pool.
  • Wear appropriate swim attire while on duty.
  • Ensure the pool area is vacant before locking, securing, and alarming.
  • Check and record chlorine and pH readings three times a day, notifying the Aquatics Coordinator or maintenance of any issues.
  • Clean and store pool equipment when not in use.
  • Check safety equipment and medical supplies monthly, reporting low supplies to the Aquatics Coordinator.
  • Vacuum the pool weekly and scrub pool scum lines monthly, or as needed.
  • Report broken items to the Aquatics Coordinator and assist in preparing orders for pool supplies.
  • Assist in scheduling pool activities and recommend suitable pool/swim activities for children and adults.
  • Maintain a daily log of who accesses the pool.
  • Keep the locker rooms and pool deck clean and orderly.
  • Comply with all Block Institute policies and procedures, including the pool plan.
  • Participate in agency-wide events and other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate consistent attendance and punctuality, arriving at meetings and appointments on time.
