The lifeguard is responsible for the safety and supervision of patrons in the pool, on the pool deck and in the pool building. Duties and Responsibilities Enforcement of Ellis & Associates and Park District policies, procedures, rules and regulations and ordinances governing the conduct of patrons using the facility. Maintain and develop a thorough understanding of the park district’s policies and operations and enforce them in a positive manner. Perform rescue and emergency procedures necessary during any accident, incident or potential drowning situation. Know and be able to demonstrate Emergency Action Plan, CPR, AED and Oxygen Administration. Always wear uniform when on duty: swim suit, clean shirt (shirt is not mandatory if under an umbrella), sunglasses (if sunny), hat, whistle, and rescue tube. Make sure equipment is in its proper place before, during and after shift. Attend mandatory 2-hour monthly In-Service trainings and regular 1-hour training sessions for a total of 4 hours training per month. Assist in cleaning locker rooms, inside and outside bathrooms, deck, office, pool vacuuming and any other cleaning duties as assigned. Assist in maintaining control at the facility at all times. Contact Supervisor if ever in need of assistance. Be friendly, courteous and helpful to all patrons especially when asking them to follow a rule. Know why each rule is enforced (safety reason behind each.) Report definite or potential hazards to the Supervisor or any full-time park district employee. If unable to work, find a substitute and get approval from the Supervisor. Keep Supervisor informed of any problems, concerns or suggestions. Keep eyes on pool at all times. Maintain good public relations. Perform any other duties that are assigned. Develop a thorough understanding of the park district’s policies and operations and enforce them in a positive manner. Risk Management Actively supports and enforces the safety program instituted by the Park District Maintains a working knowledge of all general agency and department-specific safety rules Attends required safety program and in-service education meetings as directed Corrects unsafe conditions and/or reports them to your director supervisor Enforces safety disciplinary policies and procedures Uses protective gloves, masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent exposure to pathogens Obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the safety program of the River Trails Park District.
