About The Position

As a member of the North Carolina State Capitol Police leadership team, you will contribute to public safety by providing administrative, human resources, and investigative oversight for operations protecting the State Capitol complex, state officials, employees, and visitors. Duties include supervising sworn and civilian personnel; managing personnel actions such as hiring, training, performance management, and discipline; overseeing internal and criminal investigations to ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards; reviewing reports and case files; coordinating with executive leadership and external law enforcement partners; supporting policy development and strategic planning; and providing command-level leadership during critical incidents and special events.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience in law enforcement work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

Responsibilities

  • Performs administrative and supervisory duties in support of agency operations and public safety.
  • Supervises sworn and civilian personnel in accordance with SCP, SHP, and OSHR policies
  • Manages off-duty and special assignment work processes by scheduling personnel, coordinating coverage for state facilities and special events, creating and distributing memoranda, and developing operational plans.
  • Assists in the operation and logistics of the Administrative Office by attending meetings, collaborating to schedule and conduct meetings, making follow-up telephones calls, conduct facility checks, prepare and submit repair documents, and perform duties as assigned.
  • Maintain and oversee Performance Management System records, conduct employee performance evaluations, and develop improvement plans.
  • Enforces state laws and regulations within jurisdictional boundaries and responds to calls for assistance in State Government complex.
  • Makes arrests in connection with crimes or violations of laws.
