About The Position

The State Board of Long-Term Care Administrators (the “Board”) operates under the provisions of Title 9 of the Health Occupations Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland. The Board serves as the statewide licensing authority for nursing home administrators and is responsible for protecting the public by regulating the practice of nursing home administration. As part of its work, the Board licenses qualified nursing home administrators and helps ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Its responsibilities also encompass the investigation of complaints alleging violations and, when warranted, the administration of disciplinary measures through both formal and informal processes. The Board also adopts and updates regulations, recommends statutory changes to address emerging trends and practice issues, and establishes standards for licensure and professional practice. Effective July 1, 2026, the Board will serve as the licensing authority for Assisted Living Managers (ALMs), who will be required to obtain a license to practice assisted living management in the State. The main purpose of this full-time Office Secretary II/Licensing Assistant position will be to serve as the Board’s customer service liaison and provide administrative support for Board operations. The position will perform a variety of clerical and administrative duties, including, but not limited to: Serving as a primary point of contact by handling and resolving inquiries to the Board through phone and email; Assisting with licensing and complaint processes for NHAs and ALMs; Creating, storing, and maintaining electronic applicant and licensee files; Preparing for Board and Committee meetings; Tracking board meeting attendance; and Preparing expense reports. This position requires thorough knowledge of applicable statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures, as well as the consistent exercise of tact, discretion, independent judgment, accuracy, and sound decision-making. The Board’s Executive Director will provide direct supervision for this position. The role requires working hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please Note : This position will allow for two days (40%) of remote work per week after successfully completing the probationary period.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Two years performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.
  • Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
  • Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
  • THIS RECRUITMENT IS LIMITED TO CURRENT STATE OF MARYLAND MERIT AND CONTRACTUAL EMPLOYEES ONLY.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a keyboard of a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
