Job Summary Under the general supervision of the Director of Operations, a registered nurse and according to established protocol or direction of a physician or nurse practitioner, the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) performs a variety of skilled and nursing duties and gives direct nursing care to students in the Student Health Center and performs related work as required. Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally sensitive to enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student centered and equity minded approach in all communication and service efforts. Requirements

  • Equivalent to a high school diploma and successful completion of a state approved vocational nursing program in an accredited school of vocational nursing or equivalent training and experience as defined by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT) required.
  • Possess and maintain a valid license as a Vocational Nurse issued by the State of California.
  • Possess and maintain valid CPR/AED certification
  • Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
  • Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Nice To Haves

  • One year of nursing experience is preferred.
  • Possession of IV certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for administering medications/immunizations and performing other skilled nursing duties which require specialized training, judgment and skill.
  • Performs routine patient care and assists physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and registered nurses.
  • Performs basic intake assessments in person or on phone for non-acute, acute, or urgent problems and expedites treatment as necessary with direction from the physician, nurse practitioner or registered nurse.
  • May spend a portion of time performing duties such as those performed by a Medical Assistant.
