About The Position

Sentara is hiring a part-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the 2 West Cardiac Medicine Unit at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. This dynamic, 34-bed telemetry unit specializes in high-quality cardiac care, treating patients with conditions such as congestive heart failure, angina, STEMI/NSTEMI, and arrhythmias. The team also manages the recovery of patients who have undergone cardiac catheterizations, pacemaker insertions, ablations, and cardioversions. The LPN provides basic nursing care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP), demonstrating professional and clinical knowledge in direct patient care. This role involves working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team, including hospitalists, cardiologists, physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, to provide comprehensive patient care, clinical support, and patient/family education. The LPN is expected to adhere to legal and ethical nursing standards, manage workload accurately, provide excellent customer service, perform testing, administer medications, and implement nursing interventions and care plans with a holistic approach. The LPN also serves as a patient advocate in illness and disease prevention. The unit is known for its strong collaboration, supportive leadership, and excellent performance outcomes, offering a fast-paced, team-centered environment. A generous sign-on bonus of up to $8,000 is available for qualified candidates.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited LPN school (Diploma, Trade School).
  • A valid LPN license in state(s) of practice (Virginia or Compact Multi-State License in good standing for LPN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • Must be detail-oriented.
  • Must be compassionate.
  • Must be able to handle physically demanding tasks.
  • Meets any requirements defined by specific specialty.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic nursing care under the supervision of an RN or Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) in the clinical setting, within the scope of practice dictated by the State Boards of Nursing.
  • Demonstrate professional and clinical knowledge relative to designated clinical practice setting in the delivery of direct patient care, adhering to the level of verified competency dictated by the site specific program.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support and communicate effectively with other licensed independent practitioners (Physicians, NP, PA) in collaboration while providing care and treatment for patients, clinical support and teaching for patient and family members.
  • Adhere to the legal and ethical standards of nursing practice.
  • Manage responsibilities of workload with accuracy.
  • Provide excellence in customer service.
  • Perform testing, medication administration and the implementation of nursing interventions and care plans to support a holistic approach to patient care.
  • Serve as patient advocate in the prevention of illness or disease.
