About The Position

This position is for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) within the cardiac service line, where nurses will be cross-trained to work in both cardiac surgery and cardiovascular/stroke stepdown units. St. Joseph's Health is recognized as a leading heart hospital in the region, ranked top 10% nationally for Cardiac Surgery Programs and an American Heart Association Cardiovascular Center of Excellence. The American College of Cardiology has also recognized St. Joseph’s Health for its demonstrated expertise in treating chest pain. An LPN provides nursing care under the direction of an RN, physician, or other authorized health care provider, performing tasks within the framework of case finding, health teaching, health counseling, and provision of supportive and restorative care as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school for Licensed Practical Nursing.
  • Current licensure, or eligibility for licensure, in the State of New York.
  • Maintains current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures quality nursing care is rendered to all patients in accordance with the New York Nurse Practice Act, National Standards of Practice, and Nursing and Clinical Service standards of care and practice.
  • Utilizing the Nursing Process is involved in the provision of direct care of patients and families.
  • Performs therapeutic nursing interventions under the supervision and direction of the RN for daily care, tube feeds, dressing changes and more.
  • Administers medication upon completion of medication course.
  • Documents care using the EPIC system.
  • Collaborates with an interprofessional team including registered nurses, medical social work, care managers, nutrition, Rehab services, spiritual care and pharmacy.
