About The Position

Maintain and supervise the district-wide HVAC and low temperature refrigeration equipment and employees, including directing and managing the energy management program. Develop and oversee an integrated districtwide energy management program that ensures efficient and effective use of energy resources and meets the comfort, health, and safety needs of students, staff and community.

Requirements

  • College hours, high school diploma, or GED
  • EPA Certified Universal Technician License
  • Texas Aire Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician License
  • Experience in supervision, training, planning work methods and schedules
  • Clear and valid Texas driver’s license
  • Knowledge of energy management program development and implementation
  • Knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air-condition systems (HVAC)
  • Ability to use energy accounting and building automation software
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data
  • Ability to implement policy, procedures, and data
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
  • Ability to use software to develop spreadsheets and databases
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • 5 years experience in HVAC maintenance and energy management

Responsibilities

  • Assume primary responsibility for the safe and functional condition of HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
  • Perform and/or oversee repairs and preventative maintenance for HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
  • Coordinate and ensure daily HVAC work order/activities are prioritized and performed.
  • Perform quality control on work completed by HVAC Technicians.
  • Train assigned employees on policies and procedures and skills needed to meet job responsibilities.
  • Respond to emergency repairs immediately and report problems to Maintenance Director.
  • Analyze energy usage and conduct needs assessment for improvement of energy management procedures, equipment, and systems.
  • Make recommendations for changes based on findings.
  • Negotiate rates with local and regional utilities.
  • Develop and implement control strategies in building automation software to increase energy efficiency of the HVAC and lighting systems.
  • Work cooperatively with building principals and facilities directors to support use of school facilities for extracurricular activities in a manner consistent with energy management guidelines.
  • Oversee the installation, repair, and modification of energy management equipment in district facilities.
  • Recommend the disposal and replacement of obsolete equipment when needed.
  • Develop and implement the district’s recycling and hazardous waste program.
  • Be available to assist on short notice for emergency or overtime work.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required including utility usage and wiring and installation diagrams of all energy management systems.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Develop and administer the energy management budget based on documented needs and ensure programs are cost-effective and funds are managed wisely.
  • Review bids, contracts, payments, or other financial documents related to energy management projects and monitor the purchase of all energy management equipment and supplies.
  • Direct the work of HVAC technicians.
  • Assist Maintenance Director in recruitment, employment, and discharge of assigned employees.
