About The Position

Under direct supervision, Scholarly Communications student employees are responsible for a variety of duties including, but not limited to, Institutional repository support, Assist with outreach, education and programming for open access and open science, marketing and public relations for open scholarship and open textbooks, and Data tracking, reporting and assessment.

Requirements

  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
  • Special Qualification: Admission or registration as a CSU student.
  • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
  • Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
  • International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Payroll Requirement: Social Security Card

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily operations of the institutional repository (e.g., uploading, metadata creation, quality control).
  • Support faculty and students in depositing works, ensuring compliance with repository policies and copyright requirements.
  • Maintain metadata integrity and assist in developing workflows for improved access and discoverability.
  • Collaborate with the Scholarly Communication Librarian to implement repository enhancements and integrations.
  • Assist in planning and facilitating workshops, training sessions, and presentations related to open access, open science, and data sharing.
  • Contribute to creating and updating educational materials, guides, and online resources.
  • Engage campus partners and student groups to increase awareness and participation in open access and open science initiatives.
  • Assist in developing promotional materials (e.g., newsletters, social media posts, flyers) to highlight open textbooks, open scholarship successes, and repository content.
  • Maintain consistent branding and messaging for open initiatives across library communication channels.
  • Support storytelling around faculty and student engagement with open publishing and research dissemination.
  • Collect and analyze repository usage data and outreach metrics.
  • Prepare simple reports summarizing progress on open access, open science, and outreach initiatives.
  • Assist in grant or program documentation as needed.
  • Provide general administrative assistance to the Scholarly Communication team.
  • Participate in department meetings and campus events.
  • Maintain shared documentation and project tracking systems.
