About The Position

The Library Associate I (Circulation), under general supervision, provides advanced customer support and performs complex library functions in one or more library units. May supervise subordinate staff and student employees.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Seven years of related experience in a public or academic library or archive.
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Knowledge of email and complex and varied library online research database searches and/or processing.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Basic keyboarding skills.

  • Independence and initiative in setting priorities.
  • Decision-making or problem solving that requires use of discretionary judgment.
  • Knowledge of Sierra or other ILS Library Systems.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the efficient operation of the circulation desk, charging and discharging library materials and equipment.
  • Answering questions on research resources and databases.
  • Instructing library customers on accessing library online catalogs, research guides, physical collections and other electronic reference databases.
  • Providing fax service.
  • Supervising student assistants.
  • Assisting in compiling circulation statistics
  • Supervising the maintenance of the library stacks.
  • Assisting patrons with locating books.
  • Assisting and execute activities related to library fines and billings for the Circulation Department.
  • Handling interlibrary loan and document delivery requests.
  • Processing course reserve material, both paper and electronic.
  • Assisting in opening and securing the building.
  • Making sure announcements are made on time.
  • Assisting with creation and maintenance of public displays and bulletin/notice boards
  • Assisting with opening and set up of library events rooms.
  • Monitoring the use of the group study areas.
  • Attending meetings and assist with library events and programs.
  • Pursuing opportunities for professional development, including workshops, conferences, seminars, and specialized training classes.
  • Serve on departmental, library, or university committees when called upon
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
