Job Summary: Access Services - Circulation student employees are responsible for a variety of duties including, but not limited to, maintaining organization of the physical collection, helping library patrons in using the facilities and resources, assisting patrons in accessing physical and digital materials, and directing patrons to appropriate staff and librarians. Special responsibilities and training may be assigned as needed. Responsibilities: Under direct supervision, the Library Assistant will perform a variety of customer service and library support duties, including but not limited to the following: Service Desk Responsibilities Check library materials in and out, including books, reserve items, and equipment Assist patrons with locating materials using the online catalog and course reserves Provide basic informational, directional, and library policy assistance Support patrons in the use of library equipment, including printers and scanners Answer and direct phone calls Perform opening and closing procedures as assigned Record and maintain usage statistics Enforce library policies in a professional and courteous manner Stacks Maintenance Responsibilities Retrieve, sort, and process library materials Shelve and shelf-read materials across all library collections Maintain orderly shelving, including shifting materials in tight areas Conduct searches for missing materials Help maintain the cleanliness and organization of the library Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions Assist with preparation and support of outreach events and library initiatives Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned
