About The Position

The Enoch Pratt Free Library has an opening for a customer-focused Circulation Assistant to join our Neighborhood Library Services (NLS) Division. Be part of our mission to bring equitable access to information, services, and opportunity for all. In this role, you will provide exceptional customer service, maintain patron records, and organize materials—playing a key part in connecting the community to information and resources. With support from NLS, you will also have access to professional development to stay current on library services and customer service trends. This on-site position requires a flexible schedule, including evenings and Saturdays, with potential work at other branches. Join us and make a difference!

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years customer service experience in a library, museum, educational, or non-profit setting.
  • Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google suite.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to provide a variety of information and guidance clearly, courteously and pleasantly to library customers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with coworkers.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Those under final consideration for appointment will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a criminal conviction check.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a public library or a non-profit organization.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations or communities.
  • Experience using various types of technologies, including digital resources, mobile devices, and standard office software.
  • Experience using inventory control systems. (Ex. Workflows or other type of library management system)
  • Experience providing user instruction/teaching patrons to use resources or products.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, French, Korean, or other foreign languages.

Responsibilities

  • Provide friendly and efficient customer service, including registering patrons for library cards, managing accounts, and explaining library policies.
  • Process checkouts, returns, and hold requests.
  • Prepare correspondence for both internal and external customers, complete forms and review applications, and prepare circulation reports as needed.
  • Handle payments for fees and library merchandise, reconciling transactions at the end of the day.
  • Assist patrons with library technology and equipment, offering guidance on self-service tools.
  • Answer general inquiries, direct patrons to appropriate resources, and support branch operations.
  • Maintain patron confidentiality and uphold library policies with professionalism.
  • Utilize various office and library systems to support daily operations.
