About The Position

Do you like to have fun and enjoy the library? Then this position is for you. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to wear our library outreach mascot, “Pip,” and assist with outreach and special events. This position provides a variety of library support services, including engaging with the community, promoting the library, issuing library cards, and answering questions about library services. You will help bring joy to patrons by providing excellent customer service, exemplifying a positive attitude, and exceeding patron needs. In addition to outreach activities, this position may assist with a wide variety of library programs and activities, as well as provide desk coverage during high-volume shifts to support library staff. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of the library, basic computer and technical skills and basic customer services skills required.
  • Valid AZ Driver’s License upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Sorts, shelves, and files library materials accurately and efficiently according to alphabetic and numeric classification systems.
  • Reviews shelves for accuracy, re-shelves misplaced items, and maintains the appearance of work and public areas.
  • Performs regular library sweeps; checks book drops on a scheduled basis; and assists with opening and closing procedures.
  • Packs and prepares materials for transport; receives, unpacks, and processes incoming deliveries.
  • Locates and retrieves library materials from stacks to fulfill patron holds.
  • Checks in library and transit materials using the automated library system; sorts donated materials based on established library criteria.
  • Provides directional and informational assistance to patrons in person and by phone.
  • Assists customers with accounts using the Integrated Library System (ILS), including checkout, issuing new cards, updating accounts, placing holds, and completing general clerical tasks.
  • Assists with special programs and events as needed and performs related duties as assigned.
  • Works cooperatively to improve operations, reduce turnaround times, and deliver high-quality customer service.
  • Provides general customer service support and assists in resolving patron concerns or disputes.
  • Maintains awareness of new library services, updates, and industry developments and offers suggestions for improvement to supervisors.
  • Completes required forms, reports, and detailed documentation related to circulation activities, including mending, media issues, damaged items, and patron account notes.
