About The Position

The School District of Clayton is seeking a talented Librarian for the 2026-2027 school year at Clayton High School. Librarians provide leadership, instruction, and consulting assistance to students and teachers in the effective use of library and media materials through a systemically developed collection of resources within the school and through access to resources outside the school. The successful candidate will proactively collaborate with building faculty and district staff to develop engaging lessons and learning for all students. They will empower learners to seek knowledge, create new knowledge, and make real-world connections for lifelong learning. The role also involves initiating opportunities that allow learners to demonstrate interests in other perspectives and providing opportunities for tinkering and making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree required.
  • Missouri Library Certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • One to three years librarian experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively collaborates with building faculty and district staff to develop engaging lessons and learning for all students.
  • Empowers learners to seek knowledge, create new knowledge, and make real-world connections for lifelong learning.
  • Initiates opportunities that allow learners to demonstrate interests in other perspectives and provides opportunities for tinkering and making.
  • Supports the administration with the review and reconsideration of challenged materials.
  • Plans and implements the library/media program as outlined in the District’s curriculum documents by previewing, evaluating, and recommending library instructional materials.
  • Responsible for the physical layout of the library and coordination of the cataloging of the collection so that all materials and equipment will be utilized to the fullest extent.
  • Responsible for the supervision and management of Library assistants.
  • Supervises students and manages student behavior issues that may occur in the library.
  • Makes the library’s resources available to students and faculty through a systematically developed collection within the school and through access to collections outside the school.
  • Serves as a consultant to District coordinators, principals, teachers, and research committees in the use of library materials and equipment within the library and/or in the classroom.
  • Provides education for students and staff regarding copyright and responsible use.
  • Assist students and faculty in identifying, locating, interpreting, and using information gathered from both print and no-print sources for reports, assessments, research projects, and other applications.
  • Encourages independent study and leisure reading by students and offers reading guidance to students who have special reading problems or unusual intellectual interests.
  • Provides leadership to both students and teachers in the planning, production, acquisition and use of instructional technologies.
  • Shares involvement with the building and District administration in the preparation of the budget; preparation of purchase orders, and follows District procedures regarding the receipt and closure of purchase orders.
  • Attends workshops, conferences, and conventions at the local and national level.
  • Develops and implements in-service programs for faculty members in the utilization of materials, equipment, and services of the library center.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or assigned by the Building Principal.
