About The Position

The Saint Ann School Librarian fosters a love of reading, provides instruction in research and digital literacy skills, and maintains an active, faith-centered library. The librarian collaborates with teachers and manages resources to ensure that students from Pre-K to 8th grade develop strong literacy, technology, and information-seeking skills grounded in Catholic values. The librarian also leads the schoolwide virtue program, ensuring that monthly virtues are taught, modeled, and integrated across classrooms, library instruction, and school culture.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary education that is applicable to a teaching assignment.
  • Hold a current, 5-year renewable Professional Florida Educator Certificate; a 3-year non-renewable Temporary Florida Educator Certificate or be eligible for certification.
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy.
  • Excellent communications skills both written and oral.
  • Experience working with PK–8 students in a school.
  • Strong technology skills and familiarity with digital research.
  • Knowledge of school curriculum and concepts.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use technology to enhance student learning.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Undergoing a FDLE Level 2 background check.

Responsibilities

  • Select and maintain books and digital resources appropriate for PK–8 students.
  • Oversee cataloging, book checkouts, inventory, and growing the library collection.
  • Establish a welcoming library environment that encourages curiosity, imagination, and a passion for reading.
  • Coordinate book fairs, reading challenges, and literacy-focused events across all grade levels.
  • Teach weekly library classes tailored to developmental stages, from early literacy in PK–2 to research and digital citizenship in grades 3–8.
  • Provide instruction in digital literacy, including: Safe and ethical online behavior, Evaluating credible sources, Responsible device use, Age-appropriate research skills.
  • Support teachers by integrating library and digital resources into classroom instruction for all grade levels.
  • Assist students in selecting books that foster reading development, align with personal interests, and support spiritual growth.
  • Manage digital databases, e-books, and online research tools for elementary and middle school students.
  • Teach students to navigate digital platforms safely and responsibly, in alignment with Catholic teaching.
  • Provide teachers with support and training in the use of digital tools and instructional technology.
  • Lead the schoolwide virtue program by coordinating monthly virtues, developing supporting materials, and integrating virtue education into library lessons.
  • Collaborate with teachers to reinforce virtue themes in classrooms and schoolwide activities.
  • Create displays, book selections, and activities that promote the virtue of the month and support the school’s Catholic identity.
