About The Position

Manages and maintains the library's electronic resources and oversees technical services operations, ensuring that all materials are organized according to established library standards, the integrated library system functions effectively, and necessary materials are obtained through interlibrary loan when needed.

Requirements

M.L.S. or equivalent degree from an institution accredited by the American Library Association.
Two years of experience with integrated library systems, OCLC, Library of Congress subject headings and classification system.
Knowledge of current trends and best practices in cataloging and library-related technology applications.
Fluency with library databases and other resources that support teaching and learning.
Awareness of emerging technologies for the academic and library environment.
Knowledgeable about licensing for electronic resources to help ensure compliance with institutional policies and applicable laws.
Highly developed computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), web authoring tools (SpringShare) and course management systems (D2L, Blackboard) and virtual presentation tools (Teams, Zoom).
Solid problem-solving and analytical skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
Strong customer service skills. Ability to provide reference and instruction services in an academic library.
Ability to work collaboratively to develop relationships within the Vol State community.

Nice To Haves

Academic library experience.
Experience with OpenAthens authentication system.
Administrative Certification for ExLibris ALMA.

Responsibilities

Manage access to online databases, e-books, e-journals, streaming media, and other digital materials.
Troubleshoot access issues and work with vendors and internal IT partners to resolve them.
Administer discovery services and authentication applications.
Maintains website through work with LibGuides.
Leads the planning, maintaining, and updating of the library automation system
Consults with others on the automated aspects of cataloging, acquisitions, serials, and circulation.
Performs original and copy cataloging.
Maintains database usage, cataloging and interlibrary statistics to submits to the Library Director.
Contributes to collection development by selecting materials
Supervises periodic inventories of all collections
Withdraws obsolete material from the collection.
Oversees the borrowing of library materials from other libraries.
Provides reference services at appropriate times.
Teaches individual and group library instruction sessions, including specialized instruction for classes.
Serves on various college committees, as appropriate.
Engages in professional development and maintains up-to-date subject-matter expertise.
Other duties as assigned.
