About The Position

The University Library at California State University, Stanislaus invites a solution-oriented, collaborative, and versatile librarian to join the library faculty as the Technical Services and Collection Management Librarian. This is a full-time, 12-month, faculty appointment beginning spring 2026. The successful candidate will manage access to diverse collections, ensure the accuracy and discoverability of bibliographic and authority records, and contribute to the ongoing development and stewardship of library collections at the Turlock and Stockton campuses. The position also supports research assistance, instruction, and liaison activities, helping fulfill the library’s mission of providing access to information resources and services that facilitate teaching, learning, and research. This is a full-time, on-site, 12-month, tenure-track faculty position and appointed at the Senior Assistant Librarian level. Library faculty work collaboratively under the direction of the Dean of Library Services to formulate, implement, and assess library practices and policies. The University Library, one of twenty-two in the California State University System, supports the mission of the University in creating an inclusive learning environment that encourages all members of the campus community to expand their intellectual, creative, and social horizons. The recently renovated Vasché Library offers technology-enabled learning spaces, a reading room, mobile shelving stacks, and state-of-the-art study environments. The library dean, faculty, and staff strongly support providing high-quality services to all who enter the library in-person or use library services virtually.

Requirements

  • ALA-accredited or equivalent graduate degree if earned from outside the U.S. or Canada.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MARC 21, RDA, LCSH, LCNAF, and at least one non-MARC metadata schema (e.g., Dublin Core, MODS, EAD).
  • Experience using Ex Libris Alma and Primo VE.
  • Minimum of two years leading and coordinating the work of library staff.
  • Minimum two years overseeing government information collections in a library setting.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Strong communication skills; ability to maintain good working relationships with colleagues and students in an academic environment.
  • Ability to meet expectations for professional growth.

Nice To Haves

  • Second master’s degree.
  • Experience in conducting library instruction sessions in an academic environment.
  • Experience designing online instructional guides and tutorials.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and monitor budget lines related to acquisitions.
  • Collection development experience.
  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in cataloging and/or metadata management in an academic or research library.
  • Experience as a Federal Depository Library Coordinator.
  • Proficiency with metadata editing or similar batch-editing utilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the work of staff supporting metadata, acquisitions, and collection management, ensuring effective workflows, training, and quality standards.
  • Perform original and complex cataloging for a variety of resources (print, digital, media, serials) using current metadata standards (e.g., MARC 21, RDA, LCSH, LCNAF, Dublin Core, MODS, EAD).
  • Oversee the library’s acquisitions budget by monitoring departmental allocations, managing interagency financial transactions with the Chancellor’s Office, and compiling collection and budget-related data for institutional reporting and surveys.
  • Ensure quality and interoperability across systems by developing and maintaining metadata and cataloguing documentation, workflows, and quality control procedures.
  • Oversee and implement metadata projects in Ex Libris Alma and Primo VE, including creation, transformation, remediation, and authority control.
  • Manage collection of and access to government information from all levels, including coordinating the library’s participation in the Federal Depository Library Program.
  • Collaborate with faculty on collection management and development in assigned subject areas to support curriculum and research needs.
  • Collaborate with library faculty in the management of acquisitions and collection data, including vendor relations, resource licensing, collection analysis, and deselection/weeding to optimize access and use.
  • Collaborate with library faculty and library IT to support systems and data management by configuring, testing, and troubleshooting discovery and access tools that contribute to system interoperability.
  • Provide instruction and reference services, integrating information literacy, research support, and activities that support the promotion of resources and services.
  • Engage in professional development, service, and scholarship, contributing to library, campus, and CSU system committees and advancing the library’s strategic goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
