About The Position

Provides comprehensive genetic counseling and testing to patients including interpreting clinical/laboratory findings and conveying them to patients and providers Assesses psychosocial situations and offers support. Educates patients regarding the risks and benefits of specific medical procedures so that they can provide informed consent. Works directory with laboratory providers in ordering necessary genetic or related tests, and evaluates the test results once received. Coordinates with non-ACL labs to arrange for reference testing and other services not provided by ACL Participates in multidisciplinary or specialty clinic meetings and projects as the genetics expert. Provides technical advice, policy interpretation, and guidance for application of appropriate procedures to AAH staff and administrators Leads a division level improvement project(s) benefitting patient care and the provision of genetics services Participates in the development and presentation of genetics educations programs for genetic counselors, physicians, other health professionals and lay populations. Serves as a mentor/coach for new team members including Entry level genetic counselors, GCI, GCII. Serves as a liaison between genetic counseling staff and senior leadership Acts as an advisor or lead on study, quality, or research activities with the intent of publication This job description indicates the general nature and level of work expected of the incumbent. Requirements

  • Certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling and either Illinois or Wisconsin state licensure.
  • Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling from an Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling Accredited program.
  • Leadership experience is required; management experience is preferred (demonstrated through clinical and/or people management)
  • Knowledge of federal, state and municipal laws, regulation and standards that may impact the delivery of services for genetics.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of people under stressful circumstances with diplomacy and tact.
  • Excellent organizational and presentation skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Basic computer skills including the use of computer applications.
