The Genetic Counselor is responsible for direct patient care and patient care coordination for Medical Genetics patients. Duties include taking family histories, teaching genetic concepts, explaining risks and benefits of various diagnostic procedures, facilitating a decision-making process for clients, documenting sessions in letters to referring care providers, calling lab results, and providing supportive, nondirective counseling. Also responsible for data collections as directed. Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel is a regional center for the care of infants, children and teens. The duration of this assignment is anticipated to last up to five months. This temporary position provides an excellent opportunity to develop or enhance current skills and experience, working with a team of Genetics Counselors.
