About The Position

ISS-USA is seeking a Maryland-based legal services coordinator to lead engagement efforts with Human Services agencies to ensure children have access to legal assistance. The goal of the position is to serve as a designated resource for cases requiring immigration legal assistance.

Requirements

• ISS-USA seeks a flexible, outgoing and service-oriented legal professional interested in serving families affected by cross-border issues.
• Candidate must have a Juris Doctor, with experience in immigration legal services with children. Three or more years preferred.
• Strong relationship-building skills, particularly with diverse and immigrant communities and multi-sectoral stakeholders, are essential.
• The candidate must possess excellent research, writing, and critical thinking abilities, strong organizational skills, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Outstanding interpersonal, communication, problem-solving and negotiation skills are crucial for success in this position.
• The ability to convey complex information clearly and with cultural competence is required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is necessary.
• The candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, and must embrace the ISS-USA culture which includes ISS-USA's mission, vision and core values, and have a sense of humor.

Nice To Haves

• It is preferred that candidates should reside in Maryland and should have ability to travel throughout the state.
• Candidates admitted to the Maryland bar, a plus.
• Previous work in a diverse multi-cultural setting is strongly preferred.
• The ideal candidate should have a basic understanding family law or child welfare, with preference for experience working with immigrant populations.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Senior Development and Training Manager to develop legal service coordination as part of existing case management with ISS-USA
• Build relationships with local and national legal organizations, and create referral pathways for emerging legal case needs
• Conduct case screenings for immigration-related needs and coordinate referrals to vetted legal service providers.
• Track case progress and ensure timely follow-up and documentation.
• Stay updated on relevant public policy related to non-citizen children; Collaborate with agency stakeholders to draft guidance supporting system-involved children and adults with immigration-related issues.
• Support technical assistance for cases related to immigration legal services, responding to inquiries, and supporting Intercountry Case Management staff.
• Develop and deliver training to relevant staff related to immigration services and immigration issues affecting children and families
• Lead ongoing communication efforts with local child welfare offices related to immigration issues affecting children in care.
• Prepare key programmatic reports as required, represent ISS-USA at relevant meetings, and support the needs of the program as they evolve.
• Perform any other duties as requested.
