Requirements

  • Operational Growth: Proven track record of building or scaling a legal or business operations function within a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Systems Design: Experience architecting processes and operating models from the ground up, with a comfort for navigating ambiguity and evolving business needs.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong proficiency in departmental budgeting, spend forecasting, and vendor negotiations, with the ability to turn financial data into executive-level insights.
  • Tech Implementation: Hands-on experience deploying and driving adoption for legal tech (e.g., CLM, e-billing, or workflow automation), including an aptitude for quickly mastering new tools.
  • Strategic Partnership: Demonstrated ability to act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams like Finance, IT, and Sales.
  • Execution & Change Management: A "builder" mindset with a bias toward action and iteration, supported by the change management skills needed to ensure new processes actually stick.
  • Effective Communication: Superior interpersonal and communication skills, characterized by a collaborative, low-ego approach to problem-solving.

Nice To Haves

  • Leadership Proximity: Prior experience in a high-leverage role supporting executive leadership, such as Chief of Staff or Head of Legal Operations.
  • Technological Innovation: Hands-on exposure to Generative AI tools, CLMs, and legal automation platforms.
  • Advanced Qualifications: A JD, MBA, or professional certification in Legal Operations (e.g., CLOC) is helpful, but not required. We prioritize practical experience and a "builder" mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Infrastructure: Define and execute a modern legal operating model, building the workflows and foundational systems needed to support a high-performing legal function.
  • Workflow Engineering: Streamline how legal requests move through the company to reduce turnaround times and empower business partners via automated self-service tools.
  • Tech Stack Ownership: Lead the selection, deployment, and continuous improvement of our legal technology (CLM, e-billing, and matter management) in partnership with IT and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • AI & Automation Strategy: Pilot and integrate emerging technologies, specifically Generative AI and automation, to increase the team’s bandwidth and optimize routine processes.
  • Financial Stewardship: Oversee the legal budget, including forecasting, accruals, and cost-optimization efforts, ensuring close alignment with Finance and Procurement.
  • Outside Counsel Management: Modernize our vendor strategy by optimizing engagement models and consolidating outside counsel spend to ensure maximum value and quality.
  • Data & Performance Insights: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and deliver regular reporting on contract velocity and departmental health to provide leadership with actionable business intelligence.
  • Scalable Knowledge Systems: Create and manage the department’s "source of truth," including playbooks, training modules, and onboarding resources that allow us to scale efficiently.
  • Cross-Functional Execution: Serve as the primary operational link between Legal and the rest of the organization, managing complex projects and ensuring day-to-day administrative excellence.
