About The Internship Program: We are looking to hire an intern for our 10-week summer internship program, which will run from June to August, or such other period as may be mutually agreed, to join Gerald’s legal team that supports Gerald’s global commodities trading business. Participants can expect to gain exposure to the legal and commercial aspects of international physical metals trading, including cross-border sale and purchase transactions, trade finance structures, logistics arrangements, and risk management. The program will provide hands-on insight into how legal supports trading desks, credit, operations, and treasury in structuring and executing complex transactions. The intern will develop an understanding of contract drafting and reviewing, negotiation strategy, and key legal risks associated with global commodities markets, while also gaining exposure to broader commercial considerations. The internship will allow participants a valuable opportunity to gain practical knowledge and explore potential career paths in the industry.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be in their junior or senior year at a 4-year accredited college or university.
  • Must be able to work in our Stamford, CT office 5 days a week.
  • Have a strong interest in commodities and law.
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Highly proactive attitude.
  • Ability to work 40 hours/week.

  • Multi-lingual candidates are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in reviewing and analyzing trade-related agreements, including sale and purchase contracts, NDAs and other commercial documents.
  • Work with internal stakeholders (commercial teams, operations, credit, treasury) to understand transaction flows and learn how to identify legal risks.
  • Assist in supporting trade and structured finance matters, including reviewing financing arrangements and related security documentation.
  • Provide general support on ad hoc legal, compliance, and administrative matters as needed.
