About The Position

Church Pension Group (CPG) is a financial services organization located in Midtown Manhattan. CPG was founded in 1917 to provide pension benefits to eligible clergy of the Episcopal Church. Since then, its mission has expanded to include life and disability insurance, health benefits, property & casualty insurance, and publishing. Legal Associate- Summer Hire positions at CPG are available on a full-time basis to rising third-year law students. Our 2026 Summer Legal Associate program runs for eight weeks from May 2026 through July 2026. CPG is unable to accommodate split summers. Legal Associates will work with CPG’s attorneys and be exposed to a wide range of legal disciplines including pensions and health benefits, insurance, private investments and funds contracts, labor and employment, technology, cybersecurity, consulting and other contracts and compliance.

Requirements

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work well with a team in a fast-paced environment
Multitasker with excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Strong legal research and writing skills
Self-motivated, imaginative and versatile
Computer proficiency
Applicants must currently be a student at an accredited law school program and in the top 25% of their 1L/2L class

Nice To Haves

Prior coursework in insurance law, technology law, employee benefits law, privacy law and/or coursework in contract law strongly preferred

Responsibilities

Assist and provide support to attorneys on a variety of legal matters
Research laws, regulations and cases
Review and assist in drafting a variety of contracts, policies and other legal documents
Participate in discussions with in-house and outside counsel
Other legal support for the Legal Department as needed
Effective performance of the essential functions of this position requires regular in-person, on-site interaction with colleagues, both for purposes of relationship building and meaningful collaboration
