With a strong reputation for client service and practical legal solutions, DeWitt attorneys work collaboratively across practice areas to deliver results-driven counsel. Our litigation team represents clients across a broad range of disputes, including business, construction, employment, and other complex civil matters. We are seeking a skilled and proactive Legal Assistant to support our attorneys in the Madison office. The Litigation Legal Assistant provides comprehensive administrative and legal support to attorneys in all phases of litigation. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Prior experience as a litigation legal assistant or similar role required
  • Familiarity with state and federal court procedures and e-filing systems
  • Strong knowledge of legal terminology and litigation processes
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  • 3+ years of litigation support experience in a law firm preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with document management and time/billing systems preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, format, and proofread legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery, and correspondence
  • File documents in state and federal courts, including electronic filings (e-filing)
  • Maintain case files (electronic and physical) and ensure organization and accuracy
  • Manage attorney calendars, including scheduling hearings, depositions, meetings, and deadlines
  • Coordinate discovery processes, including document production and tracking
  • Assist with trial preparation, including exhibit binders, witness materials, and trial logistics
  • Communicate with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and third-party vendors
  • Track and enter attorney time and assist with billing processes
  • Monitor deadlines and assist with docketing to ensure compliance with court rules
  • Provide general administrative support as needed
