About LASSB Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino (LASSB) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1958 to provide civil legal services to indigent and low-income individuals. Since its formation, LASSB has provided free legal services to protect clients’ rights and assist them in addressing legal issues that affect their daily lives. LASSB serves communities throughout San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. Our organization advocates for the rights of low-income individuals, and we believe the right team with a strong mission can meaningfully improve access to justice. Job Summary LASSB has an immediate opening for a Legal Assistant who will provide direct legal support to attorneys and meaningful assistance to clients in Family Law, Guardianship, and Conservatorship matters. This includes cases involving paternity, custody and visitation, legal separation, annulment, divorce, guardianships, and conservatorships. This is a full-time, non-exempt, in-person position based in San Bernardino County, California. The position requires regular travel to off-site legal clinics and partner locations throughout the region. The ideal candidate is organized, adaptable, and committed to serving disadvantaged and vulnerable populations.

Requirements

  • Bilingual English/Spanish required (oral and written).
  • Four (4) year college degree.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with vulnerable and diverse populations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital case management tools.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and willing to learn.
  • Ability to travel regularly; valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior legal calendaring or scheduling experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct client interviews and complete intake forms, closing letters, and file documentation.
  • Prepare legal documents including fee waivers and Judicial Council forms such as Petitions, Responses, Requests for Orders, Declarations, Subpoenas, and Judgments.
  • Assist with Guardianship and Conservatorship filings, including initial petitions, ongoing reporting, and court-required documentation.
  • Support attorneys with e-filing, calendaring, file organization, and client communications.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold attorney-client privilege.
  • Travel to and assist at off-site clinics, community workshops, and partner agencies.
  • Represent LASSB at outreach events and develop strong working relationships with community partners.
  • Maintain accurate case records using LegalServer, Lawyaw, and other case management systems.
  • Track data for grant compliance and reporting.
  • Provide cross-unit support as needed.
