Legal Administrative Assistant
About The Position
The Legal Administrative Assistant for San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program will support the work of our Staff Attorney at the South County Family Justice Center in National City, in providing restraining order legal services to victims of abuse. Established in 1983, San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, Inc. (SDVLP) is the oldest and most comprehensive pro bono legal services program in San Diego County. SDVLP’s mission is to provide equal access to the justice system by serving as a bridge between indigent and other disadvantaged people in San Diego County and the volunteer lawyers who are willing to donate their time and resources. Our team of talented and passionate employees is collegial, supportive, and committed to providing top-quality legal services to indigent, vulnerable San Diegans.
Requirements
- Fluency (written and verbal) in Spanish and English required.
- Strong Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint skills required.
- At least 6 months of general office administration experience required.
- Associate degree.
- Must have dependable transportation, and a clean driving record.
- Valid driver’s license with proof of insurance is required.
Nice To Haves
- Experience serving low-income and disadvantaged people, preferred.
Responsibilities
- Screening applicants to determine eligibility for services and conduct intake of new clients.
- Assisting in providing client services, including Spanish interpretation and translation.
- Performing computer data entry of both client and volunteer information for the purpose of conducting conflict checks and generating reports and other materials.
- Collaborating with Family Justice Center staff to effectively coordinate legal services.
- Maintaining client files and creating forms and documents.
- Coordinating volunteer schedules.
- Assisting in the recruitment and training of volunteers.
- Assisting in the scheduling of presentations and trainings.
- Translating/interpreting for clients, as appropriate.
- Traveling to/from court for filing legal documents, delivery to the Sheriffs for service, and returning documents to the legal clinic.
- Engaging in other tasks and projects as needed to further SDVLP’s mission.
