About The Position

The Languages and Cultures Department in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts is collecting application materials for a pool of lecturers with positions available as determined by need during the 2025-26 academic year. The department offers courses in multiple languages, area studies, and general education at the undergraduate level and in second language acquisition at the graduate level. See the department description and course catalog for specific courses offered. We are primarily seeking instructors to teach in person, but we are gradually expanding online offerings. Appointments from the lecturer pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term.

Requirements

• The minimum education requirement for a lecturer appointment is a Master of Arts in a related field for undergraduate courses and a PhD in second language acquisition, applied linguistics, or a related field for graduate courses.
• For positions in teaching a language, candidates must provide evidence of advanced proficiency in the language to be taught and a demonstrated knowledge of and ability to use communicative teaching methodologies.
• Applicants must provide: a current cover letter (including how you have addressed, or plan to address teaching to diverse student groups) a CV a list of courses you believe you are qualified to teach and for which you wish be considered for language courses: evidence of advanced proficiency and ability to use communicative language-teaching methods a copy of unofficial transcripts for your highest earned degree contact information of three professional references

Responsibilities

• Teaching lower and upper division undergraduate courses and some graduate courses.
• Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.
