About The Position

Attention: The Department of Social Work in the College of Letters and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a lecturer in the area of social work beginning August 2026. This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in social work. Demonstrated excellence in teaching courses across the curriculum in the BSW and MSW programs, both in person and online, is expected. An MSW degree and two years of post-MSW practice experience is required. The successful candidate will carry a 5/4 teaching load during the academic year and teach online (synchronous and asynchronous) and in-person across the BSW and MSW curricula, which are taught both during the day and in the evenings. Courses may include social work practice with individuals, families, groups, or organizations, social work field education, introduction to social welfare, and other courses across the curricula. The candidate also will be expected to embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the university community. UW-Whitewater has a vibrant generalist BSW program and a rapidly growing advanced generalist MSW program with add-on certificates in gerontology, addictions, and school social work. Both the BSW and MSW programs offer online and in-person degree options. Our baccalaureate social work program, accredited since 1974, is known for strong student-faculty interaction and dynamic students. Our Master of Social Work program, which began in 2018 and has been accredited since then, boasts a purposeful curriculum and caters to working professionals.

Requirements

  • A Master of Social Work (MSW) degree and two years of post-MSW practice is required.
  • The successful candidate should demonstrate commitment to teaching with an emphasis on promoting the success of undergraduate and graduate students and employing student-centered learning approaches that foster engagement, critical thinking, and inclusive participation.
  • A commitment to inclusivity is required.
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people with diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.

Nice To Haves

  • Practice experience in school social work.

Responsibilities

  • Full-time teaching responsibilities include a 5/4 load covering courses across the BSW and MSW curricula.
  • Faculty at UW-W may be required to teach in a variety of formats, including in-person, online, and/or in a hybrid format, or courses in the evenings.
  • All students, faculty, and staff are required to ensure their materials are digitally accessible and utilize standard technology platforms supported by UW-Whitewater. Examples include, but are not limited to Navigate, Canvas, and Microsoft Office applications – including Outlook, which is essential for university email communications and scheduling.
  • Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance
  • Develops instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction
  • Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations
