About The Position

Point Park University's School of Communication (SOC) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track, faculty lecturer position in Media Arts beginning August 2026. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, mentoring, and creative, industry and/or scholarly activities. Responsibilities include teaching graphic and interactive design and public relations courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Point Park's collective bargaining agreement requires faculty members to teach three graduate classes or four undergraduate classes per semester. Additional coursework may include teaching in SOC's media arts core curriculum for Bachelor of Fine Arts programs. The successful candidate will also advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. The ideal candidate will provide evidence of excellent technical skills to instruct students in the use of industry standard software in advanced upper-level graphic design courses in emerging digital technologies including interactive media, graphic illustration, digital imaging, UI/UX design, web publishing and scripting, and application of technical skills including front-end web development. Preferred candidates must also have the ability to teach core courses in the advertising or public relations program. Experience teaching event planning and/or crisis communication courses a plus. Candidates are also expected to maintain an active understanding of current industry best practices and technology in graphic design and public relations. Preference will be given to candidates with a track record of success in working with diverse communities of student, colleagues, and clients. Other responsibilities could include: recruiting and retaining students in the Arts and Graphic Design area. participating in SoC/Media Arts meetings and events. maintain regular office hours. work collaboratively and productively with faculty colleagues to meet the needs of our student body.

Requirements

  • Have an earned MFA in graphic design or media arts, an MBA, or an MA in Mass Communication or a related field.
  • Have five years of professional work experience in graphic and interactive design or public relations in a design or artistic position.
  • The ability to teach courses in Graphic Design, Interactive Design, Branding, Typography, Professional Practices and Public Relations.
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
