About The Position

Michigan Virtual is seeking a Learning Technology Specialist I to support and improve our LMS and SIS platforms that power digital learning statewide. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, supporting educators and professionals, and contributing to system improvements through automation and AI. The Learning Technology Specialist I supports Michigan Virtual’s learning platforms, including Student Information Systems (SIS) and Learning Management Systems (LMS). The Specialist resolves issues for internal teams and customers, supports projects, and assists with system administration and troubleshooting across platforms. The Specialist also supports system improvements, including the use of AI and automation, to improve workflows, system efficiency, and user experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Educational Technology, or related field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates nearing completion of degree in one of these areas may apply and will be considered for this position.
  • 2+ years of work experience using Student Information Systems and/or Learning Management Systems or similar systems.
  • 2+ years of experience providing technical support or help desk services.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to emerging technologies and evolving industry best practices.
  • Knowledge of web accessibility, user experience, and back-end development principles.
  • Familiarity with MS Windows (desktop and server), file management, server security, and backup procedures.
  • Ability to quickly master new technologies and support others in their use.
  • Strong decision-making skills, assessing risks and evaluating alternatives.
  • Commitment to fostering a safe and secure work environment.
  • A Working knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) tools and applications relevant to the role, with the ability to use AI appropriately to support productivity, create new value, strengthen human connections, and improve work processes.

Nice To Haves

  • 4+ years of work experience using Student Information Systems and/or Learning Management Systems in a support or administration role.
  • Experience with automation tools, AI-enhanced platforms, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with data entry and auditing practices, as well as maintaining documentation for system workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver online and/or face-to-face training in live and pre-recorded settings.

Responsibilities

  • Support the daily operations of the learning technologies, including user account creation, enrollments, course setup, and course copying.
  • Serve as the day-to-day learning technology support for Michigan Virtual staff, troubleshooting technical issues and escalating as needed.
  • Monitor and manage tier 2 support tickets; collaborate with customer-facing team members and subject matter experts to resolve issues efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate and consistent data entry across systems; perform regular audits to uphold data integrity and reliability.
  • Document system workflows, procedures, and process updates.
  • Conduct testing of new technologies, features and system changes.
  • Provide a variety of training to Michigan Virtual staff.
  • Contribute to the design, testing, and implementation of new processes and solutions that support evolving program needs.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational standards for data privacy and security across all learning technologies.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends in educational technology, including automation and AI, and contribute to the implementation of new tools, features, and integrations in collaboration with the team.
  • Leverage AI tools, where appropriate, to enhance efficiency and creativity in daily workflows, while exercising professional judgment to ensure accuracy, ethics, and data privacy.
  • Continuously build knowledge and skills through training courses, workshops, and independent study to adapt to emerging tools, technologies, and evolving organizational needs.
