About The Position

The Learning Specialist and Tutoring Coordinator of the Academic Achievement Center advances student success by coordinating a tutoring program that includes student tutors, professional tutors, and direct service to students. This role supports day-to-day operations; recruits, trains, schedules, and supports tutors; provides high-quality academic support; and collaborates with faculty and campus partners to foster an equitable, accessible learning environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of experience in tutoring/learning centers, academic support, student success, or related area; or a Master’s degree and 2+ years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating or supervising student staff and/or professional tutors, including scheduling and performance feedback.
  • Proven ability to deliver effective direct academic support (tutoring, academic coaching, workshops) to diverse undergraduate populations.
  • Strong understanding of inclusive pedagogy, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and culturally responsive support practices.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with tutoring management/appointment systems and data tracking; strong Excel/Google Sheets skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Education, Higher Education, Learning Sciences, Counseling, or related field.
  • Experience with CRLA tutor training/certification or equivalent tutor development frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Starfish, Canvas, or similar platforms.
  • Experience supporting first-generation, multilingual, transfer, and neurodivergent students; knowledge of accessibility practices and collaboration with disability/access services.
  • Background in writing support, math/science support, or academic coaching methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Support Program Operations & Coordination
  • Coordinate coverage and scheduling for student tutors and professional tutors across subjects, modalities (in-person/online.)
  • Maintain and optimize tutoring management systems (Starfish, Canvas) for appointments, attendance, and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and service standards aligned with institutional goals and student needs.
  • Tutor Recruitment, Training & Supervision
  • Recruit, hire, and onboard student and professional tutors with attention to subject coverage, diversity, and service quality.
  • Design and deliver initial and ongoing tutor training focused on: evidence-based learning strategies, inclusive/UDL practices, metacognition, academic integrity, ethical conduct, and referral protocols.
  • Provide regular supervision, coaching, and formative feedback; facilitate observations and feedback from improvement.
  • Coordinate tutor professional development, mentoring, and certification pathways (e.g., CRLA or equivalent).
  • Direct Student Support
  • Provide individual and small-group tutoring in areas of expertise; model effective academic coaching strategies (study skills, time management, reading strategies, exam preparation).
  • Offer academic success workshops and drop-in support in collaboration with faculty and campus partners.
  • Create resources (handouts, study guides, videos) that are accessible (UDL-aligned) and responsive to diverse learner needs.
  • Make timely referrals to advising, accessibility services, counseling, writing center, math lab, library, and other supports.
  • Partnerships, Communication & Outreach
  • Build strong relationships with faculty, department chairs, and program directors to align tutoring with course expectations and curricular needs.
  • Coordinate targeted outreach campaigns to high-need courses and student populations; develop center marketing materials and communications.
  • Represent the center on committees and at campus events; present on tutoring impact and student success strategies as needed.
  • Support the Director in Assessment, Data & Continuous Improvement
  • Collect, analyze, and report utilization, satisfaction, learning outcomes, and impact metrics; use data to inform staffing, scheduling, and programming.
  • Prepare term and annual reports with recommendations; contribute to strategic planning and accreditation/assessment efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, FERPA, and ethical standards in learning support.
