About The Position

GPS Group Peer Support is seeking a Learning Experience Designer (Mid–Senior Level) to develop clear, engaging, trauma-informed training materials for adult learners. This role combines instructional design, content strategy, behavioral-health literacy, and advanced Google Slides design. The designer will translate complex emotional, relational, and conceptual material into accessible, visually compelling presentations that reflect the GPS model, an evidence-based and trauma-informed approach to group therapeutic care. Working closely with the GPS Director of Content and Curriculum and in collaboration with the CEO, Program Director, training leadership, and GPS’s LMS Specialist, this team member will lead discovery conversations to clarify training goals and learner needs, then translate that input into concrete learning designs. They will design, organize, and maintain GPS’s full suite of learning materials, support statewide and national expansion, and contribute to the development of a structured, cohesive learning system. This role does not administer the LMS (LearnWorlds); instead, it ensures that all learning materials are LMS-ready and function effectively in that environment to create smooth, trauma-informed learner experiences.

Requirements

Demonstrated experience creating instructional materials, curriculum, or training content for adult learners.
Demonstrated ability to translate narrative or conceptual content into structured learning materials.
Excellent writing and editing skills for sensitive, relational, or emotionally complex content.
Experience designing facilitator-led or experiential learning resources.
Familiarity with accessibility principles including readability, contrast, and cognitive load.
Proficiency in Google Slides including layout, template creation, visual hierarchy, and simple animations.
Significant experience in behavioral health, mental health, public health, social work, trauma-informed practice, or a related field.
Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage shared drive systems, deadlines, and version control.
Willingness to learn the GPS model and apply its tone, language, and principles consistently.
Ability to design learning materials that function effectively within a Learning Management System (LearnWorlds), including module organization and learner navigation considerations.
Familiarity with asynchronous and hybrid learning approaches.
Ability to interview subject-matter experts, synthesize their ideas, and independently propose learning structures and slide outlines.
Competence in taking a high-level concept or rough idea and turning it into a complete, well-structured learning asset with minimal hand-holding.

Nice To Haves

Experience developing training or adult learning content for community-centered, peer-led, or group-based programs.
Experience preparing presentations for policy, legislative, or funder audiences.
Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator, Canva, or comparable design tools.
Familiarity with engagement platforms such as Mentimeter, Slido, or Zoom tools.
Professional proficiency in English and Spanish.
Experience preparing content for use in an LMS environment such as LearnWorlds, Canvas, Moodle, Thinkific, or similar.
Understanding of basic LMS workflows (uploading materials, structuring modules, creating resources).

Responsibilities

Collaborate with leadership and program teams to define learning goals, instructional priorities, and measurable training outcomes.
Conduct structured discovery conversations to understand project goals, audiences, and desired learner impact.
Ask clarifying questions, propose options, and translate stakeholder input into clear outlines, visual frameworks, and learning sequences.
Develop experiential, discussion-based adult-learning pathways and modular content sequences across audiences and programs.
Adapt materials for hybrid, asynchronous, and self-paced learning environments using trauma-informed, adult-learning principles.
Assess existing slide decks and learning materials and recommend improvements for clarity, consistency, and impact.
Create accessible visual frameworks, conceptual diagrams, models, and schemas that clearly communicate GPS principles.
Develop structured facilitator notes and participant materials that support consistent, high-quality delivery.
Prepare polished slide decks for conferences, funders, legislative briefings, partners, and external events.
Produce bilingual materials when possible; bilingual fluency is highly desired but not required.
Integrate digital engagement tools such as whiteboards, polls, reflective prompts, and word clouds to promote active participation.
Design and maintain Google Slides templates aligned with GPS brand, tone, and trauma-informed values.
Maintain a version-controlled library of slide decks for internal use, ensuring consistent design standards across all programs.
Organize content into multi-module learning pathways applicable across programs, audiences, and contexts.
Prepare slide-based instructional materials for seamless integration into GPS’s LMS (LearnWorlds).
Format content for LMS compatibility, including modular structuring, downloadable assets, and clear navigation.
Collaborate with the LMS Specialist to upload materials, structure pathways, confirm formatting, and ensure proper display.
Ensure all materials meet accessibility expectations including readability, pacing, cognitive load, and trauma-informed design.
Coordinate program tagging, course sequencing, and learner tracking needs in partnership with LMS staff.
Revise learning materials based on structured feedback from leadership, trainers, program staff, and stakeholders.
Support the long-term development of GPS’s learning system as the organization expands across Massachusetts and nationally.
