About The Position

Overview The Online & Digitial Learning Technology Division is hiring two positions for Learning Designers. The positions will be hired at either a Level I or Level II depending on the duties assigned and qualifications (see Qualifications section). The Learning Designer I (Instructional Designer I) is an entry-level position and works as a strategic partner with senior learning designers, providing support in course design, accessibility, and online teaching practices. The role balances hands-on course development with consultation and review activities to ensure consistency and quality across online courses and programs. The minimum starting salary for the Learning Designer I is $52,100; Commensurate with experience, plus excellent benefits. The Learning Designer II (Instructional Designer II) is a mid-level position and works as a strategic partner with instructors, providing expertise in course design, accessibility, and online teaching practices. The role balances hands-on course development with consultation, training, and review activities to ensure consistency and quality across online courses and programs. The minimum starting salary for the Learning Designer II is $61,990; Commensurate with experience, plus excellent benefits. Responsibilities The Learning Designer I is responsible for assisting in the design, development, and continuous improvement of online courses. Core functions include supporting effective use of the learning management system and instructional technologies, conducting systematic course quality reviews, and ensuring compliance with accessibility and universal design standards. The Learning Designer II is responsible for the design, development, and continuous improvement of online courses. Core functions include applying instructional design principles, supporting effective use of the learning management system and instructional technologies, conducting systematic course quality reviews, and ensuring compliance with accessibility and universal design standards. The role also contributes to original content development, faculty training, and select system-wide initiatives. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: The positions will be hired at either a level I or level II based upon duties assigned duties and qualifications: For the Learning Designer I: Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, or related field; or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required. Up to 1 year of relevant work experience. For the Learning Designer II: Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, or related field; or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required. Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, or related field. Online course design, teaching, and/or training experience. Experience using Canvas. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proficiency in instructional design theories, models, and methodologies, with a strong understanding of adult learning principles and pedagogical best practices. Experience designing and developing online courses using authoring tools, multimedia software, and learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, Brightspace, or similar platforms. Familiarity with instructional design software/tools such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, or similar e-learning authoring tools. Knowledge of multimedia production techniques, graphic design principles, and web development technologies to create engaging and interactive learning experiences. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with faculty, instructors, subject matter experts, instructional designers, and other stakeholders. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously and adapting to changing priorities. Analytical and problem-solving skills to identify instructional needs, diagnose learning challenges, and propose innovative solutions that enhance learning outcomes. Adaptability to embrace new technologies, methodologies, and instructional strategies, staying current with emerging trends and best practices in instructional design and educational technology. Demonstrated understanding of accessibility standards, including Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), Section 508, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. Experience applying Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to instructional design, ensuring that course materials and learning experiences are accessible to diverse learners with varying abilities, learning styles, and preferences. Abilitiy to conduct quality assurance and accessibility audits, evaluate course content for accessibilitiy barriers, and implement strategies to create inclusive and accessible learning environments that accommodate learners with disabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, or related field; or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • Up to 1 year of relevant work experience for Learning Designer I
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience for Learning Designer II
  • Proficiency in instructional design theories, models, and methodologies, with a strong understanding of adult learning principles and pedagogical best practices.
  • Experience designing and developing online courses using authoring tools, multimedia software, and learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, Brightspace, or similar platforms.
