About The Position

As the Learning and Development Specialist at the Barber National Institute, you will support the organization’s mission of “making dreams come true” by planning, developing, and delivering impactful training programs that promote regulatory compliance, and alignment with Barber’s mission and culture.In this role, you will design and facilitate engaging learning experiences for professional and paraprofessional staff using evidence-based and innovative learning methods. You will also serve as a key resource to employees during onboarding and throughout their professional development, helping staff build the knowledge and skills needed to effectively support individuals with autism, intellectual disabilities, and behavioral health challenges.Working closely with leadership, Human Resources, and subject matter experts, you will assess training needs, develop instructional content, and evaluate the effectiveness of learning initiatives to support continuous improvement. This position requires a skilled facilitator with strong instructional design and project management abilities and will include regional travel as well as occasional evening or weekend training sessions.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles and effective training methodologies
  • Excellent classroom facilitation and presentation skills for both in-person and virtual environments
  • Ability to design, develop, and evaluate engaging learning programs and instructional materials
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage diverse audiences
  • Project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple training initiatives simultaneously
  • Experience creating interactive learning experiences and reinforcing key behaviors during training
  • Ability to measure training effectiveness and apply feedback to improve learning programs
  • Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (LMS), HRIS platforms, and training technologies
  • Technical proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, and Snagit
  • Ability to collaborate with leadership, HR teams, and subject matter experts to align learning initiatives with organizational goals
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the initiative to improve learning processes and outcomes
  • Willingness to travel regionally and work flexible hours when training needs require
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, Education, Organizational Psychology, or a related field preferred (or equivalent work experience)
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in training, facilitation, learning and development, or a related field
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to obtain certifications such as CPR, medication administration, and behavioral safety training as required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in corporate training environments and adult learning settings strongly preferred
  • Experience in healthcare, direct care services, behavioral sciences, human resources, or quality auditing is a plus
  • Experience working with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and other training technologies
  • Background as a direct service provider with training experience is considered an advantage

Responsibilities

  • Facilitating in-person and virtual training sessions such as new hire orientation, compliance training, and professional development workshops
  • Delivering certification-based trainings including CPR, medication administration, and behavioral safety programs
  • Designing and developing engaging instructional content using adult learning principles
  • Creating training presentations, learning guides, exercises, and e-learning modules tailored to employee roles
  • Collaborating with instructional designers and subject matter experts to build high-quality learning programs
  • Conducting training needs assessments to identify skill gaps and development opportunities
  • Tracking training participation and compliance requirements using the organization’s LMS and HRIS systems
  • Measuring and evaluating training effectiveness through participant feedback, performance metrics, and learning assessments
  • Updating and improving training materials based on regulatory requirements, quality audits, and program feedback
  • Supporting onboarding processes and serving as a resource for new employees during their transition into the organization
  • Managing training projects, timelines, and program updates across multiple departments
  • Traveling to regional program locations to conduct training sessions and support staff development initiatives
