Lead Welder Evening Shift
About The Position
The Welder Lead in the Fabrication Weld Department is responsible for coordinating and supporting daily welding operations. This position provides technical guidance and oversight to welders and fitters, ensures compliance with specifications and standards, and facilitates efficient communication between fabrication and other departments, including Quality, Engineering, and Assembly. The role requires ownership of job travelers, oversight of layout and fit-up activities per AWS and CEMA standards, and hands-on support for maintaining consistency and quality within the department.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years of welding and fabrication experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
Nice To Haves
- Relavent welding certification a plus
Responsibilities
- Maintain ownership of job travelers, ensuring accurate tracking of parts from initiation through completion.
- Support welders and fitters of varying experience levels by providing direct guidance, mentoring, and technical support.
- Interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings to lead layout and fit-up activities per applicable standards.
- Act as liaison between the Fabrication department and Quality, Engineering, Planning, and Assembly teams to coordinate production flow and resolve technical issues.
- Monitor and verify that all welding work meets internal quality standards and relevant industry requirements (CEMA, AWS).
- Report daily progress to planning and production teams; identify and escalate workflow issues promptly.
- Participate in and contribute to daily production meetings.
- Ensure correct materials are used and weld procedures are followed according to specifications.
- Read and interpret tape measures, calipers, and other precision measuring devices to validate layout and finished work.
- Maintain visibility on all jobs in progress, identifying delays and opportunities for improving throughput and workflow.
- Uphold a clean, safe, and organized work environment in accordance with safety regulations.
