About The Position

The Computer Facilities – Lead Technician is a senior technical role responsible for supporting, maintaining, and improving enterprise data center and computer room infrastructure. This position requires advanced hands-on expertise with server hardware, operating systems, networking, and physical infrastructure across multiple facilities. The Lead Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, accuracy, and compliance of computer facilities, while also serving as a technical mentor and subject-matter expert for the Technology Support Group (TSG).

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in one or more of the following: UPS technology support role Data center or computer facilities support Enterprise IT infrastructure support
  • One of the following: UPS corporate-recognized technical certification Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electronics, or a related technology field
  • Strong working knowledge of: Windows Server and Linux operating systems Virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, or equivalent) Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, switching, routing) Structured cabling standards and best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex system and network issues.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National of the U.S., an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. for this employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry certifications such as: CompTIA A+, Network+, or Server+
  • Microsoft, Red Hat, or VMware certifications
  • BICSI, ETA, or other cabling/infrastructure certifications
  • Experience supporting data center environments, MDFs, and IDFs.
  • Familiarity with asset management, CMDBs, and SMC change management processes.
  • Strong documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced rack-and-stack, cabling, and physical installation of servers, network devices, and related infrastructure.
  • Deploy, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows and Linux operating systems in both physical and virtualized environments.
  • Provide hands-on hardware maintenance including break/fix, component replacement, and lifecycle management.
  • Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot fiber-optic and copper network cabling.
  • Support UPS systems and power-related infrastructure, ensuring uptime and compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Conduct technical audits of Computer Rooms, MDFs, and IDFs, focusing on: Asset inventory accuracy Configuration verification Labeling and documentation compliance Adherence to organizational and industry standards
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation including diagrams, inventories, procedures, and configuration records.
  • Identify risks, gaps, and improvement opportunities and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Serve as a technical lead for TSG team members, providing guidance, training, and hands-on mentoring.
  • Promote knowledge sharing, standardization, and best practices across the team.
  • Assist with onboarding and skill development of new technicians.
  • Act as an escalation point for complex technical issues.
  • Safely lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Safely climb ladders up to two stories high when required.
  • Follow all safety, security, and access control policies within secured facilities.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and operate company vehicles as required.
